Within the sharpening of circular saws with carbide inserts, we can distinguish two different types of sharpening depending on the use that we are going to give to the saw:
- Saws that cut wood, melanin and the like
- Saws for cutting aluminum and PVC
In this article we will focus on the sharpening of saws for cutting aluminum.
In these saws the face angle is negative and can have a cutting angle from 0º to -10º. Almost all saws tend to have a trapezoidal-flat tooth, so when sharpening them it is advisable to have a machine that quickly sharpens the trapezoidal-flat tooth, and in a single turn, as our ELITE sharpener model AVB 850 does.
The angle inside the tooth of the saw is usually 15º, although sometimes this can be greater, around 20º.
To sharpen these saws, it is important to start first with sharpening the back of the tooth, and then proceed to sharpen the face. Therefore, unlike saws for cutting wood. This will guarantee us a good sharpening and, at the same time, a good cut of the saw.
The face and back should always be sharpened with each operation to ensure not only good saw performance, but proportional tooth wear. Also, as a rule, twice as much material should be removed on the back (diameter) as on the face (inside) when sharpening the saw. In this way, the tablet will wear evenly and we will ensure a long life for our saw.
To sharpen the back and face of the tooth, ELITE has its models AVB 850, SVG 850 and MD 650
The ELITE model AVB 850 is our fastest sharpening machine in the range. With its 5 CNC axes and the sharpening system with a flat wheel, it allows a perfect sharpening in the minimum time.
Likewise, the ELITE model MD 650 allows the sharpening of the blade with exactly the same system as the model AVB 850, but in a more manual and slower way, because it is a more economical access model. It is a very easy to use and very low maintenance machine. Ideal for both professional shop operators and beginners.
Meanwhile the ELITE model SVG 850 allows also back and face sharpening of all common tooth geometries for diameters from ø100 to 850 mm. It is an innovative machine with a grinding wheel system that is perfect for cutting melamine or laminated wood without splintering or marking the wood. Use the peripheral grinding system to get a saw blade with a very smooth cutting edge.
The recommended sharpening speed on our ELITE machines is 25% for the face and 40% for the back.
As always, remember that the saws must be well undercut and clean before inserting them into the machine. A correct undercut will provide a clean cut and optimal cutting chip evacuation. A non-existent undercut will cause the chip to hit the rear tooth, causing premature wear of the sharpening and will clog the area of the cutting teeth, which will cause over-effort of the saw's cutting motor and, therefore, greater consumption. and a lower cutting speed.
Our ELITE bead breaker model MVB 850 is ideal for removing steel on the back of the tooth in circular saws with diameters from ø100 to 850 mm. You can also sharpen the face and back of flat teeth. Compact and easy to use, it is an essential machine for anyone who wants to ensure perfect and excellent saw sharpening.
On the other hand, the correct cleaning of the saws will keep our coolant in perfect condition. Remember that a well-cleaned saw is as important as one that is free of any detergent residue if it is washed with ultrasound, since the liquid normally used for ultrasonics is corrosive, which will cause our machine to rust and remove paint from protection.
At ELITE we have the washing and drying range for tools and circular saws LAVAmaq, where you can find several models according to your needs to ensure that your tools and machines are always kept in perfect condition.
