Reduce your grinding time while reducing your grinding wheel costs
The industrial sharpening or manufacturing of blades can be done with cup wheels or with segments. Segments are straight pieces of abrasives that are attached to a specific segment-holder system according to the machine model, in order to form the complete grinding wheel.
Why use segments as an abrasive? Because of their multiple advantages, among which we highlight:
- Greater material removal capacity. Thanks to its "open" concept between segments, the material removal capacity is greater, since the empty space between them allows the segment to enter much better into the piece to be sharpened.
- Less heating of the workpiece to be sharpened. Again, the system of segments with their empty space between them allows the lubricant to do its job much better. Keeping the ground workpiece cooler and therefore with better tolerances.
- Much lower cost than a cup wheel. Since the segments are made in a straight shape and with less material, the cost of sharpening the tool decreases.
- Faster system for changing abrasives. To change the segments, it is not necessary to disassemble the entire crown: the segment can be changed on the machine itself in just 2 minutes.

For our internal manufacture of ELITE knife sharpeners, we must grind each blade clamping plate, which is why we only use segments in the process.
For all these advantages, we have adapted the segment system for our ELITE range of sharpening machines, model CU mini 1200, CU and CU PRO.
At ELITE, we manufacture 3 types of segment holders: for CU mini 1200, CU and CU PRO.
